The State of Taxes

While the State of our Union has been a tad iffy lately, the State of Taxes is strong!  The IRS is still way behind on anything needing human interaction, but for most of us, we just deal with their computers.  Kinda scary … like, Skynet, but with our (I mean theirs) money!  FYI, “theirs” = “the IRS”.  Coincidence?

And now, some reminders…

S-Corp and Partnership tax returns are due 3/15/2022 this year.  That’s like 2 weeks from now, so if you haven’t gotten us your S-Corp or Partnership docs (typically P&L and Balance Sheet reports), please get on it or let us know if you need an extension.

Georgia made a last minute change to tax law, so some early filers will get a few more dollars back than they are expecting.  No, not hundreds of dollars!  Keep dreaming.  It’s more like $20.  Have dinner at Taco Bell on them!

IRS refunds are taking 1-3 weeks for most filers and Georgia refunds about 2 weeks.  This assuming you’re dealing with their computers and not their people.  There are many situations that could cause their computers to “ask for help”, and their people response time is … not so good.

Same deal with their phones.  If you want to speak to a person at the IRS, good luck!  Most of the time you wait for a good long while only to be disconnected.  There’s no magic fix (although they say it will get better if Congress only gives them more of our money! Yeah, sure.); you just have to keep trying or go to www.irs.gov and try to get your answers there.

As always, feel free to call or email our office if you have any questions or concerns or just need help getting organized.  We don’t expect the tax season to be extended, so your personal income tax return is due 4/18/2022 this year.
