It’s our once every 4 years, except every 100 years, except every 400 years bonus day! That’s the formula for math geeks like me, but the bottom line is we get a bonus workday this year to generate tax revenue for our gov’t (and a few 84 year-olds are finally legal to drink!).
Early filers are starting to receive Federal and state refunds. The IRS, in general, is taking 2-3 weeks while Georgia is taking 3-4 weeks. Of course, as they say, “individual results may vary”.
Reminder – Partnership and S-Corp returns are due March 15th this year. Individual tax returns are due April 15th (no bonus days this year, except leap year of course). Please, don’t wait until the last minute!
Tax season is running rather smoothly (so far), and the IRS is even getting better (for, you know, gov’t) at processing paper returns, but they still take several months. Honestly, you want to deal with their computers (computers lead to AI which lead to the terminator and no more taxes!), but if you have to talk to a person there for whatever reason, this is your best chance:
Dial 1-800-829-1040, follow these steps:
- The first question the automated system will ask you is to choose your language – Press 1 for English or 2 for Spanish.
- Once you’ve set your language, do NOT choose Option 1 (regarding tax refund info). Choose option 2 for “Personal Income Tax” instead.
- Press 1 for “form, tax history, or payment”.
- Press 3 “for all other questions.”
- Press 2 “for all other questions.”
- When the system asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, do NOT enter anything. After it asks twice, you will be prompted with another menu. Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
- Finally, press 3 for all other inquiries. The system should then transfer you to a live IRS agent.
As always, please feel free to call or email me with any questions or concerns.
